This quote embodies the existential notion of freedom, encouraging individuals to break free from the constraints of their past and shape their own future through their actions and decisions. This also relates to the Jungian notion of the shadow, where the "shadow" refers to the unconscious part of an individual's personality containing repressed weaknesses, desires, and instincts.
