Hello everyone!
So, this weekend, I went out drinking with my friend. We are both close to our 40s. We're both married with kids, and we both have a moderately good job. he told me that he needs to work during the weekends so that he could get a promotion (or to prove that he is worthy of getting one). I asked him why he wants a promotion.
Me "If you get a promotion, you will need to work longer hours"
Friend "Yes. But I want to become a manager. I want to work up the corporate ladder"
I understand.. but for me, I don't want a promotion. I don't want to become a manager. However, that doesn't mean that I'll work less hard. I'll work really hard. I just don't want to become a manager/VP for a company. I think there's more to life than to become an important person for a company. I don't want to sacrifice my family, hobbies, and life in general. I want to constantly do something for Neil the end of time. I want to find passion, and to create my own meaning of life.
This is why I like existentialism so much. Instead of handing a big portion of my life, I want to become responsible for my own life. Yes, work is a part of my life, but it's only a fraction.
Now let's get back to work!
Peace!
